Ok....I've finally got the 'facebook' thing down but now find that it may be more beneficial to do a blog as not everyone has to open their own account to see what we're up to!
The primary purpose of this blog is to share with you all, our friends and families, what we are up to when we go to Haiti to get our girls. We want to keep you up to date on things so you can be in prayer for us more effectively.
Many of you know that we are going around the middle of Oct. to live in Jacmel and serve there as need be. We will be taking the whole family (of course) and a few extras..... Melissa and Carl Menu as well as Jaimee Giesbrecht and Stephanie Reimer. We are also looking forward to Diane and Kathleen Horita joining us for a couple weeks in November. These young people have a heart to see what God is doing globally and want to pitch in wherever they can. We are excited about this and feel privileged to be part of this team.
Our daughters in Haiti (Lauren Cassandra,5 and Melainey Rosalinda,1) are doing well and we send them care packages regularly with lots of love until the time comes we can love 'em up close! Lauren should be going to school in fall and Melainey is potty trained at 1 year old!!! WOW...Sheldon is wondering what's up with Kira and thinks I should get on that (haha). I will see how easy it is to put pictures on here so you can see what and who I am talking about...
We are enjoying the summer, although it never seems to be as relaxing as you think it will be. Hard to believe it's almost over...2 months and counting until we head south. In the mean time we have been extracting honey and I am proud to have faced my fears (about getting stung) and helped out! I did get stung in the finger but it was worth it to spend that time with Sheldon.(awww:) Sheldon and I are pawning the kids off with Grandmas and Aunties to head out to North Carolina in Sept. to take a "Missionary Medical Intensive" course through Equip Ministries. A doctor couple puts these courses on for people going to work in third world countries. It is an INTENSE 2 week course at "doctor 101". We will get a manual a month before hand and have to do a ton of homework and memorization to prepare. I'm sure our brains will be taxed thinking about that AND all we have to do to leave for Haiti a couple weeks after we return! Please pray for us! We will be in the classroom morning till night and doing homework all evening (late!) but will be learning really cool stuff to be of use when overseas. Stitching wounds (with yarn when that all ya got), needles and I.V.'s, administering dehydration packs, dealing with severely malnourished children, taking care of 3rd degree burn victims, delivering babies, etc.... the works! There is a "not allowed to practice in North America" clause so no worries...we won't set up a practice when we return..hehe... we are hoping, however, to have many things to share with you about how great our God is and the wonderful things we were able to be a part of.
In seeking the Lord throughout all these plans, He has again and again brought us back to Ephesians 6:10-18 - The Armor of God. Specifically reminding us that our struggle in NOT against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. We have seen this in the last month and expect it will increase as we prepare to go and as we continue to walk closer with Him.....who is GREATER than he that is in the world.
Thank you for sharing in our joys and sorrows as we 'stay the course'. We 'thank God upon every remembrance of you'. Blessings,
Sheldon and Kim
